ENTRY AND APPLICATION INFORMATION

Eligibility:

Entries are open to amateur golfers with a USGA handicap index of 10.0 or below as of June 1, 2009 who reside or attend college within the JAGA area boundary. Entrant must also be at least 15 years of age by June 30, 2009.

Entries are subject to rejection at any time (including during the Championship) by JAGA.  The reason for rejection may include unbecoming conduct.

Entries:  Form; Fee, Closing Date:

All players, including exempt players, shall apply on JAGA Entry Forms or a facsimile or copy thereof. Forms are available on the JAGA website (www.jaxareagolfassn.com). Entry forms that are late, or incomplete, will not be accepted.  Entry forms by telegram, telephone, fax, or e-mail will not be accepted.  Time limit for entries means time of receipt by JAGA and not time of postmark.  Entry forms should be mailed early to allow ample time for delay or errors in delivery.  No entries will be accepted prior to June 1.
 

An entry fee of $250 will be paid by all players, including exempt players, for the Championship.  All entries must be received by the close of entries.  The entry fee will be refunded, regardless of reason, if the JAGA Tournament Chairman is notified, [(904) 221-4111] before the close of entries.  After the close of entries, the entry fee, less any fixed costs, will be refunded in the event of injury or illness if requested by July 22, 2009.
 

The Close of Entries for Exempt Competitors is 5 PM, June 30, 2009.  If the Exempt Competitor does not respond by this date, he will lose his exempt status.


Schedule:

The competition will be at stroke play.

Championship - 72 holes, 78 players eligible.

            Thursday, July 23, 18 holes, The Palencia Club          

            Friday, July 24, 18 holes, The Palencia Club

39 lowest scores or one half of the field, whichever is lower, and ties for the first 36 holes continue play July 25; all others eliminated. Tee times for Saturday and Sunday are determined by a player’s previous rounds total and using the “first to post” convention for ties where “first to post” would be last out.

Lowest scorer for 72 holes will be the Champion.  In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided immediately by a hole-by-hole playoff with the stipulated round deemed to extend to as many holes as are required for a winner to be decided.  Any playoff will begin at hole # 1.

Places:

The number of places available from the qualifier field will be determined by the number of exempt players who elect to compete for the Championship.  An Exempt Player is one who:

-          made the cut in this event in 2008 or

-          is a past Area Amateur Champion within the last 5 years or

-          is an FSGA tournament champion within the last 3 years or

-          qualified for a USGA tournament in 2008 or

-          is the 2008 Gate Amateur Champion

-          is the 2008 JAGA Junior Champion

-          is the 2009 JAGA Senior Champion
 

Rules of Golf; Close of Competition:

Play will be governed by The Rules of Golf as approved by the United States Golf Association (USGA).  Questions will by settled by the JAGA Tournament Committee, whose decision shall be final.  The competition shall be deemed to have closed when the Championship trophy has been presented.
 

Golf Balls; Driver Head:

Only brands of golf balls on the most current USGA list of conforming Golf Balls and driver heads on the most current USGA list of conforming driver heads may be used (lists may be found on the USGA website – www.usga.org.

The "One Ball" Rule will not be in effect.
 

Rangefinders:

The local rule allowing the use of rangefinders is in effect.
 

Caddies:

Caddies will not be permitted during the Championship.
 

Carts:

All players will be required to utilize the golf carts provided by the host club during the Qualifier and the Championship.  Only competitors may ride in competitor carts regardless of the space available.
 

Time of Starting:

The optional condition for time of starting described in the "Note" to Rule 6-3a, The Rules of Golf shall be in effect.
 

Practice Privileges:

One practice round will be available at The Palencia Club to players officially entered in the 2009 JAGA  Amateur Championship on Tuesday through Thursday after July 1, 2009 for a fee of   $ 45.00 plus tax subject to available tee times. Tee times must be obtained from the pro shop six days in advance.
 

Prizes: 

Championship:

The Champion will have custody of the JAGA City Amateur Championship Trophy for one year and will also receive a personal permanent trophy. Other prizes awarded for second through last place will consist of Merchandise Certificates redeemable at The Palencia Club pro shop.
 

Practice Between Holes:

A player shall not play any practice stroke on or near the putting green of the hole last played.  If a practice stroke is played on or near the putting green of the hole last played, the player shall incur a penalty of two strokes at the next hole, except that in the case of the last hole of the round, he incurs the penalty at that hole.
 

Local Rules, Pace of Play, & Suspension of Play Due to a Dangerous Situation:

See "Notice to Competitors" to be distributed at registration.

 

Conditions, Schedules:

The JAGA Tournament Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions and schedules herein.   The Committee reserves the right to maintain the most competitive field possible, and may reserve up to 10 entrant positions for the event. The decision of the Tournament Committee in any matter shall be final.
 

Personal Appearance: 

Players must be neat in appearance with respect to personal grooming and clothing and comply with the rules of the host clubs, e.g. no jeans.  All competitors must wear alternative, or soft type, spikes.
